Visitors Welcome, come and meet our working Wirehaired Pointing Griffons. Since 2005, Thorn Creek Kennel has been working on a breeding program involving the selection of athletic dogs of family quality temperament, conformation, hunting and SAR abilities combined with genetic soundness. We also
look for natural cooperation and abilities that exhibit the talents necessary of a versatile dog, both in the field and at home. The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is an all purpose family sporting dog, that was developed for hunting upland game birds, waterfowl, furred game, and  has since been used in the rescue field and ring arena as versatile dogs.  Wirehaired Pointing Griffons are intelligent, eager to please family hunting dogs. Thorn Creek Kennel  is a registered member of AWPGA and supports the continued use of the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon as a versatile hunting companion for the entire family.

At Thorn Creek Kennel we have an intermeshed breeding/training program, which is focused on the hunting/working Griffon for the on foot hunter/handler from birth.  Our puppies are registered with the American Kennel Club and the Natural Ability Versatile Hunting Dog Association, with a Non-Breeding
Agreement. The AKC/NAVHDA registrations are recognized by Purebred Canine Registries, worldwide.  We will provide a written history of testing and examinations done to help us determine the genetic health and soundness of our breeding on request. This includes a certificate for PENN Hips and OFA for Normal Thyroid of breeding dogs.

We will take back any Griffon that has been bred by us, at anytime during the life of your dog on request.  We do not charge for re-homing Griffons born at Thorn Creek Kennel.

Thorn Creek Kennel: Breeding Protocol

Our Purebred, AKC /NAVHDA Registered Wirehaired Pointing Griffon puppies are selectively bred by us here at TCK as our guarantee for genetic health, with replacement if the pup is unable to perform. Thorn Creek  puppies are temperament tested at 8 weeks of age and continually evaluated to further assist in choosing the right puppy for you.

Thorn Creek  puppies are raised underfoot, and go into their new homes with some basic conditioning; they will possess the urge to please and the inherent knowledge of how to do it. Traditional and modern methods of raising puppies are used here. Training is started for you when your puppy is born and starts with daily handling.  Early conditioning accomplished at this age is deeply ingrained; we are dedicated to improving the way our puppies are raised. By the time our pups are 10 weeks old, they are responding to basic obedience commands. The earlier the pup learns how to please, the better.  Socializing and conditioning serve as the foundation for a versatile family companion.

Early exposure is not limited to the house, kennel/crates and field. Our pups are introduced to birds and gun noise as weaning begins.   They are taken into the field with their mother, and weather permitting, into the creek, or one of the lakes in the area.  At the kennel they play and learn with their resident extended family of Griffons.  Additionally, we take the pups for crated rides in the van.

Ongoing support and advice is always available from Thorn Creek Kennel.  I am constantly enrolled in and assist with training programs (field work, obedience, agility) and am willing to share new concepts and techniques that I have found effective for our Griffons.

Follow-up: New owners are invited to keep in touch, and send photos and stories for our photo albums. (Please…!)
